A decorative wall mask, of cast bronze. Very heavy piece, with stunning work and stunning inlaid stones, turquoise and a black stone where the third eye is. From the manner in which this is made, it is possibly work from Nepal, by the Newar people who for centuries, and still today do the most beautiful sculptural pieces for decoration, and also for temples & praying sites.
Acquired overseas, old European collection. Without a doubt this is pre-1950s. Condition is perfect, and perfect also because it has plenty of age related wear that gives this dark gold tone that can only really come from age. I had a friend who does gilding work for a living and i remember he showed me once some gold leaf he had kept in an airtight container for 8 years and when he opened it it has this dark inner tone that is truly pleasing to the eye, and when he placed it next to new gold leaf, you know you cant cheat that. Thats the colour of this piece, pleasing to the eye. About 25cm (diameter). If hung, the screw has to be drilled well into the wall. Or on a steel stand.
