Authentic piece. We have sold many beautiful Japanese antiques over the years. This is a typical soldier helmet, in painted wood lacquer. The middle emblem is a mark of some sort, not family emblem or anything. No more chin strap from age. These come in many versions for many rankings throughout the 3 centuries or so during the Edo Period. 33cm (diameter). The surface has a sandpaper feel to it, done after the lacquer work on the top layer. Nice.
